Bluesky Attie: build apps and games with AI, no coding

Bluesky announced the Attie expansion at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026.

Someone built a working Flappy Bird clone this week without writing a line of code, then shared it with a link their friends could open. The catch? It’s not on the App Store. It lives on Bluesky Attie, the company’s experimental AI platform, and anyone can do the same in about five minutes.

What Attie actually is

Bluesky announced Attie earlier this year as an experimental playground for AI-built custom feeds. This week at TechCrunch Disrupt, the company expanded it into something much more interesting: a tool where you type what you want, and Attie builds a working website, game, quiz, poll, or dashboard from your prompt.

The CEO, Toni Schneider, calls it “social vibe coding.” Regular vibe coding tools give you a private chat where an AI spits out an app for you alone. Attie’s twist is the social layer: everything you build is tied to your Bluesky identity, gets its own link on the attie.site domain, and can be shared instantly with Bluesky’s audience of about 47 million registered users.

“The big question is: who’s using the thing you’re building, because we haven’t solved that problem with distribution,” explained Bluesky COO Rose Wang. “What makes Attie so interesting is that it comes with the Bluesky distribution, so it doesn’t stand alone.”

That’s the real difference. ChatGPT Sites, Replit, and similar tools help you build. Attie helps you build, then hands you a room full of people.

How building works

The flow is refreshingly short, and there’s nothing to install. Here’s the whole thing:

1. Open Attie and sign in with your Bluesky account.

2. Type a prompt describing what you want. “A quiz about my city’s coffee shops with a scoreboard” is a perfectly good start.

3. Attie suggests ideas based on your public profile too, so you can build off a suggestion if the blank page stares back at you.

4. Wait a few minutes. The Verge’s reporter generated a working Pokémon poll in about that time.

5. Get a custom link like yourapp.attie.site and share it anywhere: your Bluesky feed, other social networks, or a group chat.

One detail that matters for tinkerers: Attie lets you bring your own AI model or use open-weight options. Most people will ignore that switch. Even so, it signals where Bluesky is heading, toward open infrastructure where you’re not locked into one company’s model. If you’re new to that world, our guide on open vs closed AI models explains when the free one is enough.

Everything runs on the AT Protocol, the same open protocol behind Bluesky itself. Your creations aren’t trapped inside a walled garden, and Bluesky says private data support for apps is coming by the end of the year, currently in alpha testing.

What people are building

The current catalog is charmingly small-scale, and that’s the point. Examples highlighted on the platform include:

  • A Flappy Bird clone called Flappy Butterfly
  • A working drum machine
  • Trivia quizzes with scoreboards
  • A poll about Pokémon Red vs Blue
  • An idle clicker game about a celery man

None of these will win design awards. The Verge reviewer called them “pretty lightweight novelties,” though the drum machine earned genuine praise. And honestly, that’s fine, because the audience for a quiz about your friend group’s inside jokes was never looking for AAA production values.

Think birthday party pages, wedding RSVPs, fan community games, local event polls, small business promos. Small interactive things for small groups, built in minutes instead of weekends.

What Bluesky Attie can and can’t do yet

Before you plan your empire, here’s the honest scope of Bluesky Attie in its current form, because the gap between “demo at a conference” and “daily tool” is real.

What works today

  • Small games, polls, quizzes, and dashboards generated from plain prompts
  • Instant hosting on your own yourapp.attie.site address
  • Attribution built in, so your Bluesky handle rides along when people share your creation
  • Bring-your-own AI model, including open-weight options

What doesn’t work yet

  • No monetization, so don’t plan an income stream on it this month
  • No custom domains; everything lives under attie.site
  • No private data handling until the alpha test rolls out at the end of the year
  • No app store distribution; these are web pages, not installable apps

There’s also a moderation question worth watching. Anything built on Bluesky Attie can spread through a real social network, and lightweight moderation for user-generated apps is an unsolved problem everywhere, not just here. Bluesky has handled moderation reasonably well so far, still, keep it in mind before you build something that depends on strangers behaving well.

Attie vs the other AI builders

Here’s where Attie sits against tools you’ve probably heard about:

Tool What it builds Distribution Coding needed
Bluesky Attie Small games, polls, quizzes, sites Built-in, your Bluesky network None
ChatGPT Sites Full websites Public link, no audience None
Google Play private apps Android apps Play Store (setup required) None, but heavier flow
Traditional vibe coding (Replit, Cursor) Any app None, you ship it yourself Light, helps to know some

The comparison isn’t really fair, though, because they solve different problems. ChatGPT Sites is better for a portfolio page. Attie is better for “my D&D group needs a dice-rolling page with our campaign logo.” Distribution is Attie’s whole pitch, and for community builders, that beats raw power.

Is there money in this?

Directly? Not yet. Attie has no monetization built in, and Bluesky hasn’t announced revenue sharing.

Indirectly, it’s a lead machine. If you run a small business, a free mini-game branded with your shop’s name is the kind of thing people actually share, and local marketing agencies are already selling exactly this kind of “interactive content” for real money. Building it takes minutes now instead of quoting a developer for a custom build.

There’s also the arbitrage play that worked for every social platform wave: the people who learn a tool like this in month one end up being the ones who charge others for setups six months later. We’ve seen the same pattern with vibe-coded apps reaching the Play Store, and the skills transfer directly.

Just keep expectations grounded. This is a playground, the apps are lightweight, and Bluesky’s engagement numbers have softened this year as some users drifted back to X. Building on an open protocol does lower the risk of your work disappearing overnight, but nothing here is a salary yet.

Should you try it?

If you’ve ever wanted to make something for your community but bounced off coding tutorials, yes, spend ten minutes on it this weekend. Make a dumb little quiz for your group chat. Then look at the link you just own, on an open protocol, with a potential audience of 47 million people one share away.

That’s a genuinely new capability for non-coders. What you build with it is up to you.
